Apple’s redesigned Health app is part of iOS 27.3 and adds an Insights tab, a Longevity tab with a “Health Age” score, and a Readiness score for Apple Watch users. Apple says it will roll out to everyone as a free software update later this year. You can try it now in the iOS 27.3 beta, with a full release expected in December.
Why is the Health app back?
This redesign has appeared before. Apple removed it from iOS 27.2 beta 4 in October, and iOS 27.3 beta 1 restores it. It is also in the first iOS 27.3 public beta. That means it has been tested for several weeks and is on track to ship with iOS 27.3.
The three big pieces, at a glance
| Feature | What it does | Where it lives |
|---|---|---|
| Insights | Timely daily summaries across heart, sleep, readiness, fitness, vitals and cycle tracking | Insights tab |
| Longevity | Tracks long-term metrics across heart health, sleep, mental wellbeing, movement, metabolic health, hearing and nutrition | Longevity tab |
| Readiness | Rates your condition as Recover, Pace Yourself, Ready or Go For It | Apple Watch, Fitness app, Health Insights |
Insights: a daily summary
The Insights tab collects your latest numbers in one place and uses Apple Intelligence to explain them. It can highlight things like your latest sleep metrics or a new VO2 max peak. A “For You” section adds suggestions based on your habits, such as adjusting your wind-down routine after several nights of disrupted sleep. The app also includes videos and articles featuring Health app clinical experts.
Longevity and Health Age
The Longevity tab looks at the long run rather than today’s numbers. Its centrepiece is Health Age, which turns Apple Watch data, including VO2 max, resting heart rate, sleep and heart rate variability, into a measure of how your body is tracking relative to your actual age. You can also add clinical lab data such as A1c and LDL cholesterol to give a fuller picture.
Treat Health Age as a wellness guide, not a medical result. It’s an estimate built from wearable data, and it can’t diagnose a condition. If a number worries you, talk to a doctor rather than relying on the app.
Readiness score
Readiness is Apple’s answer to “should I push hard today?” It classifies your state as Recover, Pace Yourself, Ready or Go For It, and shows the result on Apple Watch, in the Fitness app and in Health Insights. The newest Apple Watch heart sensors reportedly measure every five seconds through the day to feed the score. Which watches support it fully may vary, so check Apple’s feature page for your model.
At-home movement tests
A less-noticed addition is a set of physical assessments you do at home. Using your iPhone camera and Apple Watch, you can measure flexibility, strength, balance, movement mechanics and VO2 max with real-time feedback. On privacy, Apple says the feature runs entirely on your device, and no video is recorded, stored or shared.
What you need to use it
The redesigned Health app needs an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad running the latest software, and Health Age requires an Apple Watch. The VO2 max test needs an Apple Watch, AirPods Pro 3 or a third-party heart-rate sensor, and some features require users to be 18 or older. In practice, Apple Intelligence means an iPhone 15 Pro or newer.
What India users should know
- Language: The redesigned Health app supports “global English” and 10 other languages, but Hindi is not on the list. Set your iPhone and Siri language to English to try it.
- Availability varies: Apple notes some features may not be available in all regions or languages. Features like lab-data import may differ in India, so check after the final release.
- Reference ranges: the app compares your numbers against clinical guidance, which may not match the ranges your doctor uses. Use it for trends, not for medical decisions.
When will it be released?
The Health app is in the iOS 27.3 developer beta now and will roll out later this year. Apple has said iOS 27.3 will launch in December. To try it early, see our guide to installing the iOS 27.3 beta, but remember that betas can be buggy, so use a backup or a spare device.
